What will I learn?

Physics and Materials Science is a broad and complex field that uses mathematical models to explain the nature and behavior of all manner of physical systems from the smallest particles inside the nucleus to the entire universe in which we live. The department also has a graduate program at the master and doctoral levels. The master s degree program has concentrations in General Physics Computational Physics and Materials Science. Our Engineering Physics PhD concentration is offered through the Herff College of Engineering PhD program. Sufficient additional courses in a collateral field of study with course numbers 6000 or above including 6 semester hours in PHYS 7996 Thesis to satisfy a minimum of 30 semester hours. These courses must be approved by the graduate advisor.

Entry requirements

For international students

Baccalaureate Degree The applicant must provide an unofficial transcript showing that a U.S. bachelors degree or its equivalent was awarded by an accredited college or university or is expected to be awarded within one term. If accepted to the University of Memphis the student must provide an official transcript by the end of their first semester. In addition transcripts from any other college or university attended may be requested. Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official. Personal copies are not acceptable as official documents. If you are a UofM undergraduate student applying to Graduate School at UofM you do not need to request that an official transcript be sent to Graduate Admissions. 2.75 4.0 cumulative GPA. Departments may set higher standards.
