The MEd in Secondary Education is a one-year master of education program that will prepare you to teach at the high school level. Whether you've envisioned yourself teaching in Chicago, another big city, or a rural community, you'll have the practical skills and professional values you need to support and influence students at a critical, formative time in their life. As a long-time partner of Chicago-area schools, Loyola University Chicago offers an immersive curriculum that places you directly in Chicago's classrooms, where you'll get the opportunity to learn from other teachers and make a difference in students' lives right away. This master's in secondary education is a 36-hour, field-based program that is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE),You will utilize information from theories and related research-based practices when making decisions and taking action in your classroom, using data to drive instruction and assess teaching and learning effectiveness. Plus, you will gain extensive experience engaging with diverse populations, including students labeled as English language learners, and have the opportunity to earn secondary endorsements in the following subject areas: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Math, History, Political Science, and Psychology.
