Teaching young people in middle grades is a challenging yet highly rewarding profession that allows. you to specialize in a field and teach subjects you enjoy while guiding students as they mature through young adolescence.The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program offers a pathway to teaching for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree but have little or no experience in education. The Middle Grades Education program will prepare you to teach students in North Carolina in grades 6-9, in your chosen area of concentration: language arts, math, science and/or social studies. The program is available through face-to-face and synchronous distance education formats. Students may enroll part-time or full-time, and have the flexibility to finish in as few as 16 months or as long as 5 years. Full-time students typically complete this program within two years.
