What will I learn?

The Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics provides you with expertise in mathematics and its applications. You will take specialized courses according to your research interests in areas including dynamical systems complexity theory numerical analysis mathematical foundations of AI and machine learning statistical mechanics and data science. The program allows you to work closely with faculty and national and industrial lab affiliates on intellectually challenging problems with real-world applications. Graduates are prepared for work in academic institutions, industry and government labs. Requirements for earning the Ph.D. include completion of core graduate-level courses, an oral comprehensive examination, and development of a research proposal and dissertation defense.
