What will I learn?

The Ph.D. program in Art History and Education prepares you for careers in university, museum, community and other arts leadership positions. The interdisciplinary program features tracks in Art History and in Art and Visual Culture Education. The track in Art History produces scholars who will be uniquely competitive in university teaching and museum and art administration roles. The track in Art and Visual Culture Education (AVCE) is focused on contemporary intersections of art, visual culture and education. Graduates contribute to the research, knowledge, theory and practice of art and visual culture education in arts leadership positions in university, school, museum and community organizations.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Applicants must also hold a recognized Masters degree in Art Education, Studio Art, Art History, or Education. If your degree is in another area, please contact an Art and Visual Culture Education faculty member to discuss your application.

Current University of Arizona AVCE M.A. students are expected to meet the same admission criteria and requirements, and should be aware that admission to the doctoral program is highly competitive.
