What will I learn?

The Nuclear Engineering Department (NE) at The University of New Mexico welcomes you as a graduate student or prospective student. Our faculty, staff, and students are eager to assist you in exploring, learning, and experiencing this exciting and unique discipline.Nuclear Engineering students benefit from comprehensive advising. Students are encouraged to meet with their research advisor and/or Professional Academic Advisor (staff) throughout their graduate program for support and guidance. Students are not required to have a Research Advisor their first semester and will be guided by the NE Graduate Director and/or the Professional Academic Advisor.Students must fulfill all requirements of the university as well as the specific requirements of your degree program. Graduate students have procedures that must be completed and deadlines that must be followed. We have included general outlines of the requirements for the Master’s Plan I (Thesis), Master’s Plan II (Non-Thesis), Plan III (Coursework only), and PhD to help you proceed in an orderly and timely manner.

Entry requirements

For international students

An undergraduate baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) over the last two undergraduate years in science, math, and engineering courses.

GRE General Exam Scores: Official GRE scores sent directly from the testing center to UNM are required. While there is no minimum GRE, competitive applicants earn a Quantitative score of approximately 160.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
