A Ph.D. in History provides a deep understanding of the past and its place in the future. This degree opens the door to careers in academia, such as history professor or research scholar, and beyond academia, such as public historian, archivist or curator. Working closely with faculty advisers and mentors, you'll expand your historian's skills in critical analysis, research and writing, conduct archival and field research, build digital humanities expertise and produce your own original dissertation. Our program has exceptional strengths in the history of early Europe, Latin America, the United States and Asia, as well as environmental, social, cultural and gender history.
