What will I learn?

This degree is taught in ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, which is internationally ranked for the quality of its teacher preparation programs. In fact, ASU began as an institution for training teachers. The Bachelor of Arts in Education in secondary education with a concentration in history combines strong content knowledge with a focus on integrating technology into teaching. Students gain the professional experience necessary to develop effective teaching skills that lead to success in grades 6--12 classrooms. Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College has developed a team-based approach to teacher preparation, allowing students to participate in professional experiences (internships and student teaching) with a team of peers while receiving guidance and support from ASU faculty members and highly qualified certified teachers. Team-based professional experiences are designed to prepare students to work with mutually supportive colleagues to address the academic and social-emotional needs of learners. Clinically embedded courses and professional experiences provide students with multiple opportunities to apply knowledge learned in coursework to practice in the classroom. Students complete a series of internships before a semester-long full-time student teaching experience. With the support of a certified mentor teacher and ASU faculty, students are able to apply in learning environments what they learn in their coursework.
