The Department of Curriculum and Instruction consists of programs in Secondary Education, Elementary Education, and Literacy Education.The Department of Curriculum and Instruction prepares prospective teachers committed to ethical instruction and disciplinary expertise who advance the intellectual and social conditions of all learners and prepares researchers and educational leaders for careers in university settings and in any number of government and precollege school settings. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is comprised of programs in early childhood/elementary education and secondary curriculum, teaching, and learning. Entry requirements

For international students

To be considered for regular admission to the MA degree program, students must meet the following requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Alabama Class “B” certification in specified teaching field
  • An overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a 3.0 average for the last 60 semester hours in a degree program, or a 3.0 or higher in a completed graduate degree program
  • A minimum combined score of 300 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or at least a 50th percentile on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

Required Entrance – Masters degree or EdS in relevant field.

English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum score for admission to a degree program or for non-degree admission is 550 on the paper-based TOEFL or 79 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT); International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum score for admission to a degree program or for non-degree admission is 6.5; Pearson Test of English (PTE): The minimum score of admission to a degree program or for non-degree admission is 59.
