What will I learn?

Learn about special education and rehabilitation while preparing for a high-demand career with the highly specialized Special Education master's program. Choose from the specialty tracks: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Mild to Moderate Disabilities Severe and Multiple Disabilities Visual Impairment or Applied Behavioral Analysis. There is a Special Education Accelerated Master's Program available to students in the junior year of the Bachelor of Science Mild to Moderate Disabilities program. Enjoy opportunities for internships and research and learn to build sustainable and equitable educational practices. Careers include resource classroom teacher, itinerant teacher, self-contained classroom teacher, parent advisor and early intervention specialist.

Entry requirements

For international students

The department requirements for admission are:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3.0 grade point average
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who have direct knowledge of your academic and/or professional performance and potential for graduate study. These letters should be recent. It is preferable to have letters of recommendation that are specific to admission to our program and your recommenders will be able to upload letters through this venue
  • Personal Statement an autobiographical essay - 1-2 pages, double spaced
  • Unofficial transcripts of all previous college work from each college or university previously attended must be uploaded with your application. Applicants recommended for admission will be required to submit final official transcripts to the Graduate College admissions office
