Other eligibility requirements

The Ted and Pat Smith Scholarship is a merit-based award available to students who are: 

  • entering Year 1 of a science or engineering degree; 
  • from widening participation backgrounds. 

Each recipient will receive an annual scholarship of £2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study (not including a placement/study abroad year).  

There are up to eight scholarships available for entry in September 2026. 

Students within the Department of Materials are given preference in selection and allocation.  

Scholarship holders will receive the scholarship annually, subject to satisfactory academic progress and performance.

You will be automatically considered for scholarship eligibility when you apply for the relevant course at this institution
