About UW

The University of Wyoming (UW) is an elite research institution that offers rigorous academic programs in a warm and supportive environment. UW is Wyoming’s flagship university and takes pride in being ranked among the nation’s top universities by Forbes and U.S. News and World Report in recent years. More than 800 international graduate and undergraduate students join the growing community of overseas students from 90 countries out of a total of 13,000 students. UW offers a sense of belonging in a close-knit community with dedicated faculty, as well as the support services and other campus opportunities one would associate with a large university.

Where are we?

Established in 1886, the University of Wyoming boasts a beautifully landscaped 785-acre campus. UW is located in Laramie, in the southeast corner of Wyoming, a Rocky Mountain state. Denver is less than two-and-a-half hours away and offers shopping, concerts, theatre, and world-class professional sporting events.

Learning Opportunities

Academic programs are offered in approximately 200+ areas of study in colleges of Arts & Sciences, Agriculture & Natural Resources, Business, Education, Environment and Natural Resources, Engineering & Applied Science, Health Sciences, Law, and the School of Energy Resources.  Students can choose from 80 undergraduate and more than 90 graduate academic programs.

Accreditation

The University of Wyoming and all UW academic programs are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission. In addition, many individual academic programs are either approved, accredited, or hold membership in accreditation boards and/or other discipline-related organizations.

Highlights of UW

  • UW’s brand new US$27 million recreation facility enhances students’ education, giving students access to a wide variety of cardio and weight training equipment, an indoor track, swimming pool, free group fitness classes, indoor sports courts, and an 11.5-meter-tall climbing wall.
  • With world-class faculty, a small student to-faculty ratio (15:1 with an average class size of 30), and innovative programs like the Wyoming Research Scholars Program, undergraduate students are able to participate in groundbreaking research and be mentored by distinguished faculty members even during their first year.
  • The new US$50 million Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility shifts science, technology, engineering, and math learning to an innovative active-learning studio environment, with flexible, state-of-the art classrooms that allow lecture, lab and discussion portions of courses to occur simultaneously.
  • UW’s world-class facilities and partnerships give students the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, whether it is investigating how planets form at Wyoming’s Supercomputing Center; researching cloud physics with UW’s King Air research aircraft; understanding deep learning, neural networks, and robotics in the Evolving Artificial Intelligence Laboratory; or exploring topics in the biological, physical, and social sciences in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem at the University of Wyoming – National Park Service Research Station in Grand Teton National Park.
  •  91% of classes taught by faculty and lecturers, not by graduate assistants
  • Outside magazine has recognized UW as one of the top "adventure colleges"

I first came to the University of Wyoming in 2013 for a one-year study abroad program, as part of my undergraduate degree in Renewable Energy. I came back to pursue my MBA with an emphasis on Energy Management in 2015, for many reasons. University of Wyoming is very unique, not only is it the only university in the state, but it has a focus and an atmosphere that is unlike any other. As a UW student you are automatically well-connected as the university provides great opportunities for connecting with the corporate and private sector of any industry you are pursuing. As an MBA student I am constantly challenged, both personally and academically to do my best, and I am confident that I will land my dream job post-graduation. Laramie is a fun college town, with a bigger city feel captured in a small town body. The outdoor opportunities are endless, you can hike, ski, snowshoe, trail run and mountain climb right outside town. University of Wyoming has a lot to offer, and the student body all have something in common, which is the uniqueness of Wyoming. show less
