One of the most memorable events I joined while studying abroad is the Ekka, the Royal Queensland Show. It’s a big annual festival in Brisbane, and each suburb even gets its own public holiday for it. The Ekka has so many things to see and do – farm animals, food stalls, carnival rides, and the famous strawberry sundae.
What I liked the most was the night show. It had circus performances, horse shows, motorbike stunts, and it always finished with a huge fireworks display. The atmosphere was so lively, and it really gave me a taste of Queensland’s culture and community spirit.

I have attended a couple of events while studying here at Bond. One of many that was most enjoybale was the morning sunday farmers market at the Home of the Arts (HOTA). This weekly farmers market was particularly enjoyable because it reminds me of my first time coming to the Gold Coast with my family and had the opportunity to visit this particular market. I had a lot of fun with my family during the visit and also produces a peaceful, but not boring, vibe. I would recommend the farmers market if you like foods that arent bought from the grocery shop! The honey here was amazing too!
While studying in the Gold Coast, I’ve been to a few amazing local events like Swell Sculpture Festival, and the Miami Marketta night market. My favourite is definitely Miami Marketta, the atmosphere is so fun and relaxed, with live music, great food from around the world and friendly locals. I love how it feels like a mix of cultures coming together in one place. I also enjoy outdoor festivals near the beach, especially those with art, food, and music. I’d really recommend Miami Marketta to anyone who wants to experience the real Gold Coast vibe!
