Top 5 Authentic Malaysian Restaurants in London

nasi lemak, malaysian food, food

Wherever we may be, sometimes we just crave food from home. And it’s worse if you don’t know how to cook or just don’t feel like it! So here is the list of the top Malaysian restaurants in London for you whenever you’re missing a taste of home (not ranked by order):

1.TukDin

char kuey teow

Right in Paddington you can find this minimal but cosy restaurant, providing a very cool ambience along with delicious and also authentic Malaysian food. Although they’ve probably reduced the spiciness of some food to cater to westerners, so you might want to ask them to spice it up!

Tip: You should try their Char Kuey Teow, it’s literally to die for!

2.Satay House

ikan assam pedas

This is also another Malaysian restaurant in Paddington. It also serves authentic Malaysian food but adds a bit of class to it. The place is really chic and the interior design simple yet cool. This is a good place to bring both other Malaysians to eat and socialise, but also your international friends looking to try Malaysian cuisine.

Tip: You must try their Ikan Assam Pedas, but tell them to make it slightly spicier ;)

3.Rasa Sayang

nasi goreng

In the heart of China Town, you can find this restaurant, which is actually a fusion of Malaysian and Singaporean (what’s the difference right?) cuisine. Usually packed and feels more like a cafe than a restaurant, but nonetheless still serves authentic Malaysian food. Unlike the ones mentioned before this, which are more Malay Malaysian, Rasa Sayang is more Chinese Malaysian. If you’re a Malaysian you’ll get it!

Tip: Try their Nasi Goreng, just totally scrumptious!

4.C&R Restaurant

prawn satay

A bit more pricey than the rest, so if you’re looking for a posh Malaysian restaurant then this one is it! Feels like fine-dining Malaysian food, which is something you probably won’t even get in Malaysia! Even so, they still serve delicious Malaysian food, especially their seafood which is usually very fresh!

Tip: Try their Prawn Satay, it is as delicious as it sounds!

5.Malaysia Hall’s Canteen

nasi lemak

Right under Malaysia Hall is a small canteen that gives you the true authentic feel of a Malaysian mamak or warung. Some true Malaysians actually argue that this is the best place for Malaysian food as everything from place, ambience, decor, people, and most importantly food is totally authentic. So with that being said when it comes to being authentic it can’t be challenged by the other Malaysian restaurants on the list. Not only that, it’s really cheap! You can get a whole course meal, along with appetisers, drinks, and dessert for no more than £10! Definitely the place with the most value for money! Best place if you’re looking for a true authentic Malaysian experience, and your non-Malaysian hipster friends would love this place too!

Just so you know, it’s not exactly a place you can recommend to your international friends as they need a Malaysian to get in. Although, some have said even though that’s what they say, they wouldn’t say no to customers.

Tip: You must try their Nasi Lemak, tastes exactly like the one you can find in Malaysia!
