Throughout this major you will study mathematics subjects including calculus, algebra, statistics and mathematical modelling, complemented with subjects about teaching and learning strategies, including learning and development, pedagogy (that is, what to teach and how to teach it), professional teaching skills, curriculum studies and techniques for meeting the needs of students.
This major makes up the core of the Bachelor of Secondary Education. You also have the option to undertake an approved minor, including geography or Aboriginal studies, gaining specialisation in a second teaching area. Students may also take up extra mathematics subjects to deepen the breadth of their content knowledge.
