What will I learn?

The Master of Teaching and Learning (Secondary) is a 10-month, full-time programme with 22 weeks based in the classroom. This valuable experience will develop your skills and enable you to see how theory and practice are interlinked in your development as a teacher.

You'll be placed in a school in the Wellington area where you will spend two days a week alongside a mentor teacher in a classroom context. You'll also have two days of timetabled classes on campus each week during which you'll discuss, critique and extend your learning.

As well as time in a Kaianga Akopai (host school) you will spend four weeks on placement in a different school in the first half of the year. In the second half of the year, you will spend eight weeks fulltime in your host school, to widen and deepen your teaching experience.
