Course description

Our flagship course blends theory and practice, giving you a strong grounding for a career in industry or research. This continually evolving course has been running for over 40 years and is well supported by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The core modules provide you with the basic skills you’ll need to become a control and systems engineer. You’ll take advanced modules in current areas of interest and complete a research-level dissertation project.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students who hold a good undergraduate four year bachelor degree and high grades in relevant individual subjects from an accredited university or college in the USA will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or masters programmes. For entry to MBA students need a good four year bachelor degree from an accredited university or college in the USA and at least 3 years´ post-graduation work experience. They must be at least 25 years old by the time the programme starts. Students with a lower GPA and considerable work experience may be considered. Postgraduate applicants are required to achieve a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

For international students

Minimum 2:1 undergraduate honours degree in an engineering, mathematics or science subject. You will also need excellent mathematical notation and basic computer programming skills. We may also consider your application if you have a considerable level of relevant professional experience. English language requirements: Overall IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent. Overall IELTS score of 6.5 with 6.0 in each other component, or equivalent. TOEFL: Overall score of 88 with a minimum of 19 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 22 in Speaking and 19 in Writing.
