Many Textile Technology PhDs have been supervised at the Scottish Borders Campus, across a wide range of topics including: materials and pressure testing of medical compression, smart textiles for medical and health applications, nano-spinning, developing new test methods: e.g. fibre fragmentation (micro-plastics) or multiaxial measurement of fabric tension and shear properties, new product innovation and testing, development of new materials and dyes from waste.The vast majority of the textile technology projects seek solutions to technical problems or to make the textile processes more sustainable. With a fully-equipped and conditioned textile testing laboratory, a wet laboratory and sample production facilities (knit, weave, print), the campus is purpose built to support a range of research practices.
