BA (Hons) in Spatial and Interior Design

In my opinion the best aspects about studying at Kent have been the ongoing support and acknowledgement of my mental health and home situation. As a care experienced student I have had to go through far more struggles than the average student to be able to attend and continue my education at university, however with the ongoing support from Kent Student Support and Wellbeing my transition here was very smooth and far less stressful. Not only did they ensure to have someone set up here to help me whilst moving to a new environment, but have ensured to check up on me every so often to ensure I am safe and doing well. They are the first point of contact for me when I’m feeling down and have constantly shown that my respect for them isn’t unwarranted as they advocate for me in any situation that I need. This has been beyond kind and reassuring in my time here, knowing I have someone to support me unconditionally as I’m unable to be provided that from back home. Allowing me to have a continuous positive outlook of my education and not to keep striving forward rather than giving up.

BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences

In my opinion, the best aspects of being a student and studying at the University of Kent are the new friendships you form, the variety of opportunities available, and the extensive facilities and study spaces on campus. When I first started, I was worried about making friends at university. However, looking back, it wasn't as daunting as it seemed initially since everyone is in the same situation when starting university. I was fortunate with my flatmates and even reached out to two of them before moving in, so we got to know each other beforehand. The first friends I made on my course were through my academic advisor meeting, which consists of about 10 students and an advisor who supports you throughout your time at Kent. My advice to new students is to put yourself out there and talk to as many people as possible, as they are likely feeling the same way. Reaching out can make others feel more comfortable too. The number of opportunities at Kent is vast. There is something for everyone, whether it's sports, arts, hobbies, or religion. There's a society for everyone, and if you can't find one that suits you, you have the chance to create your own, which is an incredible opportunity. Lastly, I greatly value the wide range of study spaces around campus. At times, I prefer working with background noise, but other times I need a quieter environment to focus. The library has a fantastic system where the floors get quieter as you go up. Additionally, there are subject-specific study spaces across campus. As a biomedical science student, I often use the Freedman building, which offers PCs and a quiet area for focused study.
