In a recent press report, UNSW has declared the launch of two new diploma programmes, which will commence intakes from September 2018.

Diploma in Science and Diploma in Engineering programmes are two new initiatives that act as a new pathway into one of the world’s top universities, UNSW. These programmes will allow international students to transit to undergraduate programmes in science and engineering from the second year onwards at UNSW. Hence, students pursuing these programmes will be awarded both, degree and diploma qualifications at the same time.

The diploma programmes are aimed at enhancing English language and communication skills of the students and providing curricula which are based on the first-year degree courses, along with a face-to-face learning experience.

Marc Weedon-Newstead, Group Executive, Education at UNSW Global, said: “The Diploma Program is aimed at a different student profile than our Foundation Studies programs. Foundation Studies graduates commence university in first year whereas our Diploma graduates will articulate directly into the second year of their chosen degree.

The Diploma Programs enable international students to build their Academic and English skills while studying equivalent first year Science or Engineering subjects with additional teaching and support, which means they will be up to speed with their classmates when they enter the second year of their degree.”

This could be a good opportunity for students who have been longing to pursue their undergraduate in Australia. Also, it is an avenue for those students who want to improve their academic and English skills through a pathways programme that gives them easy access to study undergraduate science and engineering degrees.
