Situated in the most southerly city in Canada (with a pleasant warm climate) overlooking the Detroit River, the University of Windsor is an exciting and vibrant institution with an outstanding faculty and contemporary learning facilities where students can excel.
There are 16,000 students enrolled in the university and alumni measuring over 150,000. Not only is the campus a thriving hub of activity but there are extensive networking opportunities between current and former students along with local and international businesses.
International students are a big part of the campus. Plus, there are extensive support facilities in place designed to help students from abroad to transition into the local culture and the university lifestyle.
Current students can join over 4,000 people using the International Student Centre, while prospective students are able to speak to Neharika Kataria, the Student Recruitment Advisor for South Asia to get any help they need before they enroll.
The university has nine faculties covering a diverse range of departments and subjects with almost 200 to major in, and over 60 graduate programs available. Work experience opportunities are included in study programs so that students can begin to build contacts ahead of their future career.
There are dedicated scholarships and bursaries available for high achieving international students too. Students from all over the world are given every resource needed to gain an exceptional education and develop career skills at Windsor.
The university is safe and welcoming, with further support services available to all students, covering a range of topics that could impact students’ life at the university. The university has a global reach thanks in part to its alumni, international students who have completed their programs at Windsor now reside and work in over 120 countries around the world, although many of them have chosen to remain in Windsor, Essex too. The university acts as an excellent gateway into Canadian immigration for any international students who wish to relocate to the country for the rest of their lives.
Many students who complete an undergraduate degree will choose to move into further education – and at the University of Windsor there are 65 graduate programs available, providing a number of opportunities for students to become true experts in their chosen field before entering the world of work.
There are many excellent networking opportunities available for University of Windsor alumni, with regular reunions and events held to encourage alumni to support each other. As a result of the high-class education and support systems, over 95 per cent of UWindsor graduates are employed within two years of completing their studies.
International students can also connect with former international graduates through these events, finding unique support in the opportunities available to them either in Canada or back in their home country.
The University of Windsor has launched new virtual tours that allow prospective students to tour the campus and facilities from the comfort of their own home, which is perfect for international students to get accustomed to the university without needing to travel. The tours offer detailed views of the main campus and highlights, with videos that detail where classes and labs are held. For the international students who are unable to travel in advance of their enrolment , these new virtual tours ensure students can get to know the university before they arrive.
The University of Windsor is proud to unveil the Toldo Lancer Centre in this summer 2022. The $73 million Toldo Lancer Centre is not only the new home to the UWindsor’s recreational services and intercollegiate sports and varsity teams, but also a new, modern space to connect, gather and host various social activities, community, special events and receptions. The centre will provide research opportunities, employment for students, expand community partnerships, support neighbourhood organizations, the Lancer summer camp programs, and sport tourism activities - a place for all.

The University of Windsor has an extensive scholarship and bursary program which sees over 14 million CAD awarded to students every year. While some are funded directly by the university, many are instead backed by donors including alumni, faculty, local organizations and the wider community.
There are various dedicated scholarships and bursaries for international students, including some that are automatic depending on students’ status and some that require an application. Scholarships and bursaries are awarded for a wide variety of criteria, and students are encouraged to look at the various options available as there may be a financial award they are eligible for that they weren’t aware of. Students can contact one of the regional recruitment officer to learn more about the details of the criteria, funding amount and any deadlines.
The university also offers a tuition guarantee. The purpose of the UWindsor Tuition Guarantee is to provide financial predictability for international students and their families. Students are placed in a cohort year based on the first term of entry at the University of Windsor. Each cohort is guaranteed an unchanged tuition rate for the typical length of time required for the degree.
Entry requirements for study on an undergraduate program at the University of Windsor can vary depending on the chosen field and subject, and on the country of origin for the student.
International students are very much welcomed at the university, although as all courses are taught and examined in English, students will need to be able to demonstrate language proficiency. Although various tests are accepted, UWindsor's English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) also provides students who meet the academic requirements a pathway to meet the English proficiency requirements for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
