What will I learn?

This unique, fully online degree will equip you with industry-valued knowledge and skills in performance, composition, ear training, music theory, music technology and production, music history and music cultures. The program traverses a broad range of styles and genres across contemporary, classical, popular and electronic music. Our course is designed to give you practical skills that are highly valued in today's music industry. When you study our Bachelor of Music you will have the opportunity to develop a thorough knowledge of the historical, cultural and theoretical background of music genres – including early music, classical, opera, contemporary, and electronic music – via the study of topics in music history, music cultures and popular music studies. Additionally, the program fosters advanced musical craft skills in aural and harmony. You will build on your creative and/or research portfolio as you progress through your degree, which will be an invaluable tool to document your capabilities as you transition into a professional career.

Entry requirements

For international students

You can apply for this course if you meet all of the following entry requirements:

You have a minimum musical theory standard of, or equivalent to, Grade 4 of the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) as demonstrated by music qualifications, or completion of the UNE online music theory test.

You can pass a performance audition. This must include two contrasting musical works. The expected standard is Grade 6 of the AMEB or equivalent in any style. Alternatively, you may submit a music composition portfolio of two original and contrasting works.

You can satisfy the Music discipline of your suitability for studying music through the completion of a Personal Statement assessed by the discipline within six months prior to the date of enrolment.
