What will I learn?

This qualification is part of the Aviation Training Package.

This course is targeted to students who have completed their CPL, and want to improve their employability with a multi-engine command instrument rating (ME CIR.)


This option of the Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is designed for students who already hold a Commercial Pilot License.

The course is designed to prepare students for their first job in aviation; either as a Charter Pilot or a First Officer in an airline.

Overseas students enrolled in the course may be eligible for a student visa.

At the end of the course, successful students will be awarded a Diploma of Aviation, and will qualify for a CASA ME CIR assessment.

It is a full time course with compulsory attendance from Monday to Friday, and there are no scheduled holidays during the course. Extra attendance may be required, depending on weather.

Entry requirements

For international students

The Pre-Requisites for the course are;

  • Students must hold a current Australian CPL
  • Unless secondary school has been completed in Australia, an IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no sub-score less than 6.0 (academic assessment)
  • Class 1 Medical
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Successfully completed Year 12 (applicants will be required to provide a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education) or successfully completed a Vocational or Higher Education qualification of at least a Certificate IV Australian Qualification
  • Pass a computer based assessment which includes Maths, Physics and logical reasoning skills. This assessment is done at a Basair campus and takes 3 hours.
  • Pass an interview with a Basair instructor
