What will I learn?

The Doctor of Education (EdD) focuses on applied investigation and problem solving rather than on a contribution to pure research or to theoretical knowledge. This professional doctorate, comprising coursework units and a thesis, is oriented towards enhancing professional practice and focuses on the professional development of practitioners involved in some aspect of education.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have either: a completed recognized relevant honours degree or equivalent, a completed recognized masters degree or professional doctorate (by research or coursework). Masters and professional doctorate degrees by coursework must have a significant research component, normally not less than 25%. Holders of masters and professional doctorate by coursework must: have a minimum grade point average (GPA) score of 5.0 on QUT's 7 point scale; and present evidence of research experience and potential for approval. IELTS Academic - Overall 6.5, Listening Reading Writing Speaking - 6.0; Pearson PTE (Academic) - Overall 58, Listening Reading Writing Speaking - 50; TOEFL iBT - Overall 79, Listening Reading -16; Writing - 21; Speaking - 18. Cambridge Advanced English Score - Overall 176, Listening Reading Writing Speaking - 169.

For international students

  • A completed recognised four-year honours Class II A degree in education; or
  • a masters degree in education or in a field relevant to the professional doctorate in education with a minimum GPA of 5.00 on QUT's 7 point scale; and
  • Two years' practice in a position of professional responsibility in education or a closely related field.

IELTS Academic score of 6.5 with Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking score of 6; TOEFL iBT score of 79 with Listening, Reading score of 16, Writing score of 21 and Speaking score of 18; Pearson PTE (Academic) score of 58 with Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking score of 50; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score of 176 with Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking score of 169.
