What will I learn?

The Graduate Certificate in Public Health provides preparation for work, education and research in public health. It provides the skills necessary to launch a career in public health and the education needs of public health professionals who want to advance their careers. You will graduate with the necessary skills for professional public health practice across a broad range of settings. The program fosters understanding of fundamental areas of public health professional practice and will benefit students returning to postgraduate study after a long period in the workforce. Graduates are equipped to contribute knowledge and skills with well-developed judgement for improving public health outcomes across diverse community and organisational settings. Through the graduate certificate, you can continue on to study the Master of Public Health and associated dual and extension programs.

Entry requirements

For international students

There are two pathways for entry and a third exceptional pathway. These include:

Pathway 1

Applicants must have both:

a) A three year undergraduate degree in any field of study

b) Two years of full-time professional or volunteer experience in a relevant field (see list below)**. The professional experience may include experience in health or public health services acquired as part of a degree of 4 or more years duration, e.g. MBBS, MD.

Pathway 2

Applicants must have at least one of the following:

a) An undergraduate degree plus an honours in a relevant field of study (see list below)*

b) Postgraduate degree in a relevant field of study (see list below)*

Pathway 3

In exceptional circumstances, applications will be considered for entry when they have extensive professional health or public health experience but do not hold a relevant degree qualification. A minimum of five years full-time relevant professional experience is required and an interview with the School of Population Health may be conducted.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
