This course provides you with the current skills and knowledge in order to fulfil the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and to practice nursing in a variety of settings, including mental health, primary health, acute care, aged care and palliative care areas. You will gain all the requirements aligned to current industry trends and will graduate with the following skills:How to assist in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursingAn understanding of anatomy and physiologyHow to understand and implement infection controlHow to provide nursing care for the clientAn understanding of legal and ethical parametersHow to promote positive healthAn understanding of the health issues of Indigenous Australians andHow to contribute to the nutritional and mental health care of the client.A large component of your studies will be a clinical placement where you can practice your skills and attributes. Upon completion of this course, you will have the qualities required to become a qualified Enrolled Nurse. All students enrolled in the HLT5421 Diploma of Nursing course are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) for the duration of their course. On successful completion of all course requirements, you may be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). In Australia, nursing qualifications are accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). ANMAC is accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) for assuring the Australian community that graduates of accredited programs can practice and care for people in a safe and competent manner.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • You must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in any of the following countries or territories: Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Indian Ocean Territory, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guernsey, Guyana, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Malta, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, United States of America, US Virgin Islands. At least 2 years of study must be between years 7-12.
  • Equivalent to Australian Year 12 with a pass in Year 11 Maths is required for entry into this course OR
  • Completion of 52895WA Certificate IV in Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies is required for entry into this course.
  • Students enrolling into HLT54121 will require a National Police Clearance, WA Health Department Criminal History Record Check, Working with Children Check, Immunisation Clearance, Medical Clearance and an AHPRA student registration. All students enrolled in this Diploma are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) for the course duration. On completion of all course requirements, you may be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
  • Students may be required to undertake Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) Literacy & Numeracy assessment testing and achieve an exit level score of 3 (working at level 4) Literacy and Numeracy Testing. Students who have provided a formal English Language result are only required to complete the numeracy component.
  • Students must be 18 years of age, or turning 18 years of age in the first semester, in order to fulfil work placement requirements of this course.
