What will I learn?

Provides an opportunity for those involved in educational practice to undertake advanced coursework and research in a field of particular interest.

The course prepares students to inquire into the nature of educational problems and generate new knowledge which can be used to enhance policy and practice. When undertaking research, students are encouraged to become involved in applied research which attempts to provide solutions to the problems faced by learners, teachers, administrators, consultants and policy-makers.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have the minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional (work) experience. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.5, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 573, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 84, with no individual score less than 17; PTE Academic 58, with no score less than 50 for postgraduate standard entry courses; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 58 - 66 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 176, with no individual band less than 169.

For international students

All applicants are required to have a Bachelor of Education. Alternatively applicants can have a Bachelor degree in any other field, plus extensive professional experience, or have three years of teacher training, plus extensive professional experience.

Academic admission requirements (Band 8) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.5, with no individual band less than 6.0;
Pearson English Test (PTE) Academic - PTE Academic 58, with no score less than 50 for postgraduate standard entry courses.
TOEFL iBT - Minimum score of 573, including Test of Written English of 5.0 or better.
TOEFL - Minimum score of 84, with no individual score less than 17.
