Overview

The Master of Public Health is widely recognised as essential for a career in population health, including health promotion, primary health care, policy formulation, research and management of health programs. You will extend your knowledge and skills in public health research by undertaking an advanced research project.

This Master of Public Health (Extension) degree will give you a sophisticated understanding across the complex body of multidisciplinary knowledge of public health including epidemiology, biostatistics, social determinants of health, health promotion, population research methodologies, and health program design, implementation and evaluation. You will be perfectly positioned to pursue a PhD in Public Health to further advance your career in public health research.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For stream A and B: Students must have Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average of 65%; Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average of 65%, plus one year relevant professional experience; Honours degree or Graduate Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average of 65%. For stream C: Students must have Bachelor Degree or equivalent with a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW credit average of 65%. Students from a non-211 university in China are now required to have a record of academic achievement equivalent to a UNSW distinction average (75%).

For international students

Applicants are required to have either:

An undergraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management and two years full-time professional or volunteer experience. This may also include equivalent professional experience acquired as part of a degree of 4 or more years duration (e.g. MBBS, MD).

An undergraduate degree plus an honours or postgraduate degree in a field relevant to public health or health management.

Examples include, but are not restricted to, medicine, nursing, allied health, health sciences, biomedical sciences, dentistry, sociology, behavioural and social sciences, social work, psychology, marketing, human services, emergency services, environmental health, veterinary science, health administration, business, management, engineering, law, science, mathematics and statistics, economics, policy studies and development studies.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking); Pearson (PTE - Academic): 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C1 Advanced Cambridge: 176 overall (min. 169 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 180 overall (min. 180 in each subtest); UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of C+ and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
