What will I learn?

The Master of Public Health builds upon existing knowledge to better equip health professionals to address relevant challenges. You’ll learn strategies and techniques to prevent disease and promote health on a national and global scale. This course develops you into a leader who can drive innovation behind public health and solve complex issues on an international scale.

The Master of Public Health will equip health professionals from a broad range of backgrounds with the knowledge and skills to address public health challenges. You’ll enhance your understanding of current global and environmental health issues, health policy, systems and economics, along with social, behavioural and cultural determinants of health. The course teaches strategies and techniques to prevent disease and promote health on a global scale and develops you into a leader who can drive innovation behind public health and solve complex issues on an international scale.

Subjects and units

Each subject involves 10 hours of study per week, comprising 3 hours of facilitated study and 7 hours self-directed study.

International students must not enrol in more than one-third (33%) of online subjects over their course and must study at least one face-to-face subject each study period. Most face-to-face courses are also available online. Please note that due to COVID-19 pandemic, authorities have provided exceptions to the usual face-to-face learning requirements.

International students on a student visa are required to study full time, i.e., the student must complete a minimum of 1.0 EFTSL of study per year.

  • Design and apply intervention strategies to detect, prevent and control diseases
  • Identify environmental risk factors that affect the health and safety of a given community
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the ethical practice of public health, and the principles of access and equity
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of health policy and management to promote and optimise health and welfare.
