What will I learn?

German Studies focuses on the language, literature, and culture of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The German Studies program in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers up-to-date, effective language instruction for beginners through to advanced students. Even if you have no prior knowledge of German, it is possible to begin and complete a degree in German Studies. Many students choose to combine a degree in this area with a related field such as English, French, History, or Education. Even if you do not major in German Studies, taking courses in this area will enrich your education and can be used to meet the Humanities Requirement. Courses in German culture and literature are available in both English and German. This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree (3-year) with a Major in German Studies. Students taking an undergraduate degree in another Major may choose to add a Minor in German Studies as a secondary area of interest.

Entry requirements

For international students

The language of instruction at The University of Winnipeg is English. Students must have a level of ability in English that allows them to participate in all aspects of university study, including lectures, reading, writing, and discussion. If English is not the students first/primary language and they are not from an English Exempt Country, they must provide supporting documentation to show they meet one of the conditions below. Students will not be admitted until this requirement has been met. English language measures older than two years will not be considered.
