What will I learn?

Learn to advance oral health and protect patients with a variety of specialized skills. In the Dental Assisting program, you will build the practical skills and in-depth knowledge needed to prepare patients, perform intra-oral and laboratory procedures and assist dentists using four-handed dentistry techniques. Youll explore head and neck anatomy, infection prevention practices, laboratory techniques and the relationship between general and oral health. You will also develop professional communication and business skills, experience the importance of effective clinic management and explore your role in education. During the practicum portion of this program, youll practice intra-oral procedures on patients at a private dental office and the University of Manitobas Faculty of Dentistry.

Regular Admission Requirements

Grade 12

Submit proof of graduation from or enrolment in Grade 12, including one credit in each of the following:

Grade 12 English

Grade 12 Math

Grade 12 Science (Biology 40S is recommended)

If you provide proof of enrolment at time of application, your official final grades indicating successful completion must be submitted by July 15 for fall enrolment or by the deadline specified in your admission letter

Mature Student Admission Requirements

If you are 19 years of age or older and have been out of high school for a minimum of one year at time of application, and you do not meet the regular admission requirements, you may apply under the Mature Student admission requirements.

Grade 12 Courses

High school graduation is not required, but you must have successfully completed or be enrolled in one credit in each of the following courses:

Grade 12 English

Grade 12 Science (Biology 40S is recommended)

Successful completion of one credit of Grade 11 Applied Math 30S or Pre-Calculus Math 30S is strongly recommended

English Language Requirements:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic): Listening 6.5, Speaking 6.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.0 or

CAEL and CAEL Online (Canadian Academic English Language): Listening 60, Speaking 60, Reading 60, Writing 60

TOEFL - iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - internet Based Test): Listening 20, Speaking 20, Reading 19, Writing 21

Duolingo (Duolingo English Test): minimum overall score of 115 required.
