What will I learn?

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for thousands of years. Today, it is a regulated health profession in Alberta and a popular alternative and complementary treatment choice for acute and chronic illness.This program prepares you to become a Registered Acupuncturist in Alberta, subject to successful completion of the Pan-Canadian and provincial registration examinations administered by the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA). We are proud to be the only public, post-secondary program of this kind in the province that has been approved by Alberta Advanced Education.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 60 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:

  1. ELA 30-1 or ELA 30-2
  2. One of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Science 30
  3. One subject from Group C
  4. Two subjects from Group A, B, C or D

Applicants must be 20 years of age or older and have been out of full-time high school at least one year by the beginning of the intake term. Applicants must have a minimum overall average of 60 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in the following high school courses:

  1. ELA 30-1 or ELA 30-2
  2. One of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Science 30
  3. One subject from Group A, B, C or D

Applicants must have successfully completed one of the following from a recognized institution:

  • A minimum of 24 post-secondary credits with a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and must have completed the required science course(s) listed under the Regular or Mature Admission category.

IELTS–Academic: Minimum overall band score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each band.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (Internet-Based Test (iBT)): Minimum total score of 86 and a minimum score of 21 in each section.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Minimum overall band score of 70 and a minimum score of 60 in each band.

PTE – Academic: Minimum overall score of 59 and a minimum score of 56 in each band.

Cambridge English: Advanced/Proficiency: Minimum overall score of 180 and a minimum score of 165 in each skill.

Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): Minimum overall score of 85 and a minimum score of 80 in GCVR, Listening, and Writing and a 3 in Speaking Test.

Duolingo: Minimum overall band score of 115.
