What will I learn?

Research in the Department of Pathobiology addresses such diverse areas as pathogens of animals and how they interact with their hosts, emerging and zoonotic pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, immunologic and genetic bases of resistance to infectious disease, development and progression of cancer, and immune-mediated and inflammatory diseases. We work on diseases of farm animals, laboratory animals, fish, wildlife, zoo and companion animals, from the molecular level to that of the population. Research-based MSc 2 years or PhD 4 years degrees are offered to non-veterinarians and veterinarians in all fields of study in the department. Veterinary specialty training is offered through DVSc 3 years and Graduate Diploma 1 year programs for applicants with a DVM degree.

Entry requirements

For international students

Minimum Degree: Normally, the minimum requirement for admission to a doctoral program is the successful completion of a graduate/masters degree from a recognized university, including demonstration of strong potential for research. Minimum Admission Average: 73% (‘B standing) average in the entire graduate/masters program. Calculating Admission Average: Admission is based on the completed grades (to date) in the equivalent and relevant graduate/master's program. If an applicant has multiple Master's degrees, the recognized degree with the most relevant academic discipline to the proposed field of study will be used. Programs may recommend admission using previous Doctoral programs, if applicable. Grades from the graduate/master's degree will be calculated in their entirety. Applicants who are applying to the DVSc program with a DVM degree (or equivalent) must have achieved a minimum overall of 73% ( or High Second-Class Honours).
