What will I learn?

The PhD in Philosophy at Western in a four-year program. In their first year students take courses in their second they take a comprehensive exam in their main research area and complete a course that will lead the writing and defend of a thesis prospectus their third and fourth years are spent writing their dissertations.The courses and supervision available reflect the strengths and diversity of interests of the faculty, which collect along five principal fields: feminist philosophy history of philosophy (ancient, medieval and modern) moral, political and legal philosophy philosophy of mind and language and philosophy of science (including mathematics and logic).Program Length12 Terms

Entry requirements

For international students

MA in Philosophy from an accredited university although students whose specialization is not Philosophy may be admitted Minimum 70 percent average in their graduate studies as determined by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Applicants whose first language is not English must furnish evidence of their proficiency in the use of the English language School of Graduate Postdoctoral Studies Admissions Requirements Our program does not waive this requirement however applicants may request that SGPS assess their eligibility of an exemption and we will accept their decision. Students applying to the five year direct entry PhD program must meet all MA program admission requirements Applicants must possess a four-year degree from a university college or institute The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies requires at least a 70 percent average across courses taken in the last two fulltime years of the undergraduate degree Equivalent qualifications may be considered based on the standards of the discipline or profession.
