What will I learn?
Applied operations research at the Department of Management Science and Engineering provides quantitative tools to model complex decision making problems in manufacturing and service industries in modern global economy. Our faculty are experts in optimization, stochastic processes, Markov decision processes, data analytics, and decisions analysis with focus areas in health care, supply chain management and logistics, revenue management and pricing, energy, and manufacturing.Gain knowledge and master skills ranging from analytics and optimization to information systems and behavioural sciences with the Master of Applied Science in Management Science and Engineering program.Through coursework, original research and a thesis, you’ll learn traditional skills in supply chain management and optimizations while simultaneously being exposed to cutting-edge research in human computer interaction, energy management, and innovation entrepreneurship to address society’s most complex problems. With three main research specializations to choose from including applied operations research, information systems, and management of technology, you’ll be prepared to focus on the skillset best suited to your interests so you can achieve your career goals in private industry, government and beyond, or pursue further research at the PhD level.
Entry requirements
For international students
The Department of Management Science and Engineering requires either (i) a 75% overall standing in the last two years, or equivalent, in a relevant four-year Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or (ii) a 75% overall standing or equivalent, in a relevant four-year Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent, as the minimum requirement for admission to a Master's program for applicants educated at a Canadian institution. A 75% overall standing or equivalent, in a relevant four-year Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent is the minimum requirement for admission to a Master's program for applicants educated outside of Canada.Background in quantitative methods (e.g., Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics).All applicants must submit a Statement of Purpose - a one page statement addressing their academic background, area of research interest, proposed research studies.Applicants who fall slightly below the minimum academic requirements may be considered for admission as transitional or probationary students.If a statement or letter is required by your program, review the writing your personal statement resources for helpful tips and tricks on completionTranscript(s)ReferencesThree references are required, if the applicant has been working for several years, one business reference will be accepted along with two academic references
