We offer graduate students an intimate and collegial environment that fosters a comparative and interdisciplinary approach to French and francophone studies. Students can focus on a variety of specializations such as sociolinguistics or Caribbean literatures, Acadian French or French-based creoles, Quebecois literature (including New France) and contemporary French fiction, among other topics. The Department of French is home to the Centre for Transnational Cultural Analysis, an interdisciplinary research unit, and also hosts a yearly graduate conference, organized by and for students. Collaborative specializations in African Studies and Digital Humanities are also available. Being situated in Ottawa offers students easy access to a number of bilingual institutions (including the NAC) from government departments on through to headquarters of a number of key organizations and businesses. Many career opportunities are just down the road.
