What will I learn?

The Department of Music has developed the Master of Music (M.Mus.) degree in three distinct fields: Choral Conducting, Composition, and Performance. The Performance concentration includes studies in piano, voice, strings and selected other instruments, as well as routes in piano pedagogy and wind band conducting. Focusing on the practical study of music performance, conducting or composition, our three M.Mus. programs allow students to delve into the concentration of their choice. Interested applicants will be highly qualified performers and/or composers who have demonstrated a high level of achievement in their fields. The Department of Music offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Arts, Master of Music, Doctor of Music, and Doctor of Philosophy. The MA and PhD include work in the areas of Musicology, Music Theory, Ethnomusicology, Popular Music, and interdisciplinary music studies. The MMus program includes specializations in Performance (keyboard instruments, piano pedagogy, orchestral instruments, wind band conducting, and voice), Choral Conducting, and Composition. The DMus program is offered in piano and organ performance, in choral conducting, and in composition, and is considered on an individual basis for applicants in other performance areas.
