What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Arts with Honours or BA(Hons) is for high-achieving Bachelor of Arts students (or those from equivalent degrees) to select from a wide range of subjects in the humanities and social sciences. UC's BA honours degree is made up of a personalised study programme, which includes elective coursework and a supervised research component. Film is a unique medium, in that there are so many ways to tell stories. The cultural impact and influence of cinema over the years has been huge. This subject will introduce you to the tools and techniques used in film creation. In your classes, you will analyse the structure, cinematic style, and storytelling of films from diverse genres through the lens of theory, history, and culture. Study Involve: From the silent era of film to modern day – explore the evolution of movies and filmmaking. Other topics include analysis of scenes, screenwriting, exploration of Maori identity, storytelling for children, and the French New Wave. You can minor in Cinema Studies in many UC bachelor’s degrees.

Entry requirements

For international students

To apply for a BA(Hons) you must have qualified for a bachelor's degree, and satisfied the prerequisites for your major subject. Prerequisites vary between departments, but normally good grades in 300-level courses in the subject is required.
