Through this three year programme you will develop a wide range of skills and knowledge related to Animation and Computer Generated Imagery (CGI).

This programme is designed to give you the skills you need for employment in the CGI industry, and in the creative and cultural sectors, or in other sectors where CGI is used. You will gain experience using industry-standard animation and CGI software and processing for projects.

From gaming to animation, gain a broad range of skills

Similar skills are used across many areas of computer generated imagery. The NMIT Bachelor of CGI programme is designed to introduce you a wide range of tools and techniques, and then let you delve deeper into particular areas of interested through project courses.

Whether you want to create animated characters for games, or special effects for cinema – the skills you will learn in the Bachelor of Computer Generated Imagery will help set you on a path for a wide range of careers in CGI.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students are required to complete international qualifications equivalent to New Zealand NCEA Level 3 qualification OR A qualification on the NZQF at Level 4 or above in a related discipline. English language requirements: IELTS: Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5; TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18).

For international students

  • Achievement of NCEA Level 3 (60 credits at Level 3 or higher and 20 credits at Level 2 or higher) or equivalent

  • OR

    Any qualification (New Zealand or overseas) recognised by NZQA as being equivalent to the achievement of NCEA Level 3.

English language requirements

  • IELTS: Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
  • Cambridge English Examinations - B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42
