Lincoln University’s Graduate Certificate in Academic English develops your readiness for postgraduate study. Completing the Graduate Certificate ensures you become eligible to enter a postgraduate programme, and shows that you meet the English Language requirements for admission (equivalent to IELTS 6.5). The programme not only cultivates your English Language skills, but also helps you develop your academic potential by familiarising you with the course resources for your intended area of postgraduate study. This Graduate Certificate is the only language bridging programme of its kind offered by a New Zealand university, and is also a CUAP-approved qualification. New Zealand university courses generally require an English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5, which is delivered by the Graduate Certificate in Academic English. If you want to enter the Graduate Certificate in Academic English, but don’t yet meet the required English Language admission standard, you can enrol in Lincoln’s English Language Programme first.

Entry requirements

For international students

Academic transcripts (results or mark sheets) for all tertiary education qualifications, either completed or partially completed. The transcript must include the courses taken and the marks or grades achieved. The grading scale used must also be provided.
