What will I learn?

This programme is for you if youre intending to complete a pre-trade qualification or if youre already working in the mechanical engineering, construction, manufacturing, and fabrication industries. This programme will prepare you for work, apprenticeship and/or further education in these industries. This programme is great if youre a motivated independent learner wanting the foundational skills for operating machinery and using related software for welding and fabrication. As a graduate of this programme you will have solid knowledge and the practical skills to be capable of performing a defined range of engineering tasks under limited supervision as well as the knowledge you need to be able to do the required assessments and calculations such as estimations, cost of goods, and time costing – future-proofing your career in mechanical engineering.

Entry requirements

For international students

All applicants must be at least 16 years of age when they begin their studies.

NCEA Level 1 in Mathematics, English, and Physics or General Science; Or Equivalent.

English Language Requirements: IELTS test: General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5. TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14). PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36; Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill. OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests. NZCEL - Level 3 (General). Language Cert - B1 Achiever International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.
