What will I learn?

Study human health and the causes, prevention and treatment of disease, studied from the molecular details in the body to the symptoms and pathology of diseases.This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be a part of the next generation of biomedical research scientists.You’ll learn to apply biological sciences to explore human health and the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases such as cancer and Parkinson’s disease. You'll study a broad range of topics including genetics, genomics, human physiology, cancer, pathology, infection and immunity, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and pharmacology.Develop your professional skillsYou'll be exposed to a wide variety of opportunities to develop transferable professional skills, including problem-solving, IT, communications, time management, research and analysis, and team working. We aim for our graduates to be adaptable and creative problem solvers, ready for a career in an ever-changing world.

Entry requirements

For international students

Your application, especially your personal statement, should demonstrate your enthusiasm for studying biomedical sciences. This might include relevant reading, voluntary or work experience, areas of interest from your current studies or other relevant extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. You will need a strong performance in both Biology and Chemistry as part of your entry qualifications.

GCSE Mathematics grade 4 or C

GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C (or equivalent from English language category C)

A level Typical offer

AAA or A*AB

AAA or A*AB in three A levels including A in Biology and A in Chemistry

A level Contextual offer

ABB

ABB in three A levels including grade B in Biology and B in Chemistry with grade A in either Biology or Chemistry.

A level Alternative offer

AAB

We know that you may have study beyond three A levels that will help prepare you for your degree. If you are not eligible for a contextual offer, we recognise these studies through our alternative offers.

International Baccalaureate Typical offer

6, 6, 6 or 7, 6, 5 at HL

International Baccalaureate Diploma

36 points overall and 6, 6, 6 or 7, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Biology and 6 in Chemistry.

International Baccalaureate Contextual offer

6, 5, 5 at HL

International Baccalaureate Diploma

36 points overall and 6, 5, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 5 in Biology and 5 in Chemistry with 6 in either Biology or Chemistry.

Pearson Edexcel BTEC RQF Typical offer

DDD

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (RQF)

DDD in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (RQF).

Scottish Highers Typical offer

AA in Advanced Highers

AA in two Advanced Highers including Biology and Chemistry.

Access to HE Diploma Typical offer

36 credits at Distinction

A pass in the Access to HE Diploma (in Science or Science and Engineering), with at least 36 credits achieved at Distinction and 3 credits achieved at Merit or above. This must include at least 30 credits achieved at Distinction from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) units, of which at least 9 credits must be from Biology units and 9 credits must be from Chemistry units (excluding Biochemistry).
