What will I learn?

In today’s world, almost every interaction takes place through digital technology whether on a computer, smartphone, camera, or smartcard creating vast amounts of data that can be analysed to enhance decision-making, systems, and research. With advancements in technology, computational power, and machine intelligence, a new and rapidly growing field has emerged: Data Science. Rather than focusing solely on business metrics or financial markets, data science now enables the analysis of information about people and the world they live in. As Jake Porway, Executive Director of DataKind, describes, a data scientist uniquely combines the skills of a computer scientist capable of building software to manage data from multiple sources with those of a statistician, who can extract meaningful insights from that data. They develop innovative ideas and pose critical questions about what data can reveal. This programme is designed for individuals with such aspirations. Drawing on the expertise of the Mathematics and Computer Science departments, it integrates cutting-edge technologies, pioneering research, and new scientific perspectives to equip students to shape the future of society in meaningful and impactful ways.
