What will I learn?

Benefit from our expertise in creative writing, curation, digital media, film, theatre, music, visual arts and the management aspects of these industries. Undertake work placements and make connections with our cultural and creative partners. Learn from internationally recognised filmmakers, performance practitioners and best-selling writers, as well as industry experts in curation, digital media and visual arts. Enjoy a varied programme, choosing from modules such as Global Media, Directing, Inside the Gallery, Music Festivals and Storytelling for Audiences. Explore the legal, business, leadership and management aspects of working in this sector alongside your own creative practice. Take advantage of cultural venues, like our on-campus gallery the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, as well as museums, theatres and cinemas in Birmingham city centre. You’ll be assessed in different ways to suit each module. At the start of a module, you’ll be told how and when you’ll be assessed. Methods will vary but may include coursework (e.g., essays), group or individual presentations and projects, exams, reports or computer-based assignments.

For international students

Applicants are required to have three A levels with grades ABB. For the International Baccalaureate (IB), a score of 6,5,5 in Higher Level subjects including 32 points overall is required. For BTEC qualifications, an Extended Diploma with DDD or equivalent is accepted. Additionally, BTEC Diploma holders with DD plus a B at A level, or BTEC Subsidiary Diploma holders with D plus AB at A level, are considered. Applicants who take the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet the offer criteria will receive the typical offer for their chosen programme, as well as an alternative offer one grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, applicable if Birmingham is chosen as the firm choice. Those who take the Core Maths qualification and meet the offer criteria will receive the typical offer, plus an alternative offer one grade lower plus a grade A in Core Maths; however, applicants also taking A-level Maths are not eligible for this alternative offer. This also applies only if Birmingham is selected as the firm choice.
