What will I learn?

The Professional Doctorate in Criminal Justice provides an alternative award for the traditional Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The DProf is a unique programme designed for professionals working in the Criminal Justice sector who are interested in furthering their development as expert practitioners.You’ll develop a critical awareness of topics at the forefront of criminal justice and the contexts and theories that influence practice in these areas.This bespoke qualification can be tailored to professional requirements, increasing the potential for personal development and career progression.The course has two points of entry:Stage 1 involves undertaking an MSc in Criminal JusticeStage 2 involves undertaking the professional doctorate thesis and a Level 8 moduleThe course is either:Four years full-time (one year MSc and three years maximum for the professional doctorate thesis) orSeven years part-time (two years MSc and five years maximum professional doctorate thesis)If you are admitted directly at Stage 2 this will be reduced to three years full-time maximum or five years part-time maximum.Why study with usOnline resources provide the flexibility to study when and where it suits you, within a guided and structured framework.The course is taught by lecturers with frontline experience in criminal justice organisations and those who are research active in this area.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work at Masters level by holding a qualification in a relevant area (please discuss this with the course leader). Applicants must demonstrate they are or have been active in professional practice in the wider area of criminal justice (e.g. including through engagement in research projects, publications, presentation of papers at conferences, professional qualifications and relevant professional practice).
