Become a skilled engineer with real workplace experience. Our BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering with Industrial Year will prepare you for an exciting career. Study with us and you’ll learn how to invent, design and manage technologies and their applications. From energy and electronics to communications and network engineering, you’ll be able to choose from roles in a huge range of sectors. Spend a year working in industry to explore your career options. This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Combining theoretical and practical learning, you’ll discover how to design electrical circuits, develop communications systems and how power systems work. You’ll build creative, technical, analytical and decision-making skills, and specialise in areas of interest. Study in our state-of-the-art building with a Design Centre and the Makerspace practical facility. Your industrial year will show you how to apply your knowledge, develop professional skills and build your networks. Working alongside mechanical and civil engineers you’ll graduate with interdisciplinary experience ready to tackle engineering challenges in a variety of careers. Get ready for an exciting future using your expertise as an electrical engineer. You'll receive plenty of feedback to help you progress, ranging from written feedback on your assessments to class feedback sessions and discussions with your tutor. The feedback will highlight the positives of your work as well as any areas that need more attention. You'll be assigned a personal tutor who'll remain with you throughout your studies to help you in three important areas: supporting your academic progress, developing transferable skills and dealing with any welfare issues. You'll also need to undertake a considerable amount of self study. It's an essential part of the programme, which requires self motivation and enthusiasm for your subject. It also allows you to pursue your own lines of enquiry and become an independent thinker.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants are required to achieve AAB at A-level, including A-level Mathematics, with three A-levels in total. General Studies is not normally accepted, although a strong performance may be considered if the conditions of an offer are narrowly missed. For the International Baccalaureate, applicants must achieve 6,6,5 at Higher Level, including Mathematics, with 32 points overall. A-level Mathematics is compulsory, and applicants without this qualification may be assessed through a Mathematics Aptitude Test. The BTEC Extended Diploma will be considered for BEng programmes if it contains sufficient Mathematics content and the applicant successfully completes the Mathematics Aptitude Test at the required level, with grades of D*D*D* plus Distinction in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The BTEC Diploma may be considered in combination with A-levels, requiring D*D* plus grade B at A-level; if A-level Mathematics is not taken, the Diploma must include Mathematics and Further Mathematics units alongside the successful completion of the Mathematics Aptitude Test. Similarly, the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma may be considered in combination with two A-levels, requiring D* plus A and B at A-level, and if A-level Mathematics is not included, the Subsidiary Diploma must contain Mathematics and Further Mathematics units with the Mathematics Aptitude Test passed at the required level.
