What will I learn?

History and Education BA at Keele explores how the past continues to shape the present. You’ll learn how to apply historical insights to address some of the urgent education issues facing today’s world. The programme combines academic study in both subjects with hands-on experience in diverse learning environments, from classrooms to community work. Field trips, guest speakers, school placements, and experiential learning will help you build your portfolio, preparing you for a successful career in education, a broader range of public-facing roles, or further study.

History and Education BA at Keele explores historical chronology and the landscape of schooling and education in the modern world. You will explore issues including diversity and inclusion, and how government policies often contribute to the disenfranchisement of groups in education. Analyse how the education system works, and themes such as changes in social mobility and inequality over time. You will examine these aspects through exposure to a range of exciting ideas and theories from disciplines like sociology, psychology, and philosophy.

In your final year, you will apply the knowledge and skills gained over the course of your degree to specialist case studies and an independent project. You will explore major global challenges, such as A.I. and climate change, and examine how history and education can help address them. This degree equips you with critical and practical skills for a range of careers, including teaching, policy, and public-sector roles, as well as further study. Wherever your path leads, you will be prepared to make a meaningful impact on society.

At Keele, you will have the opportunity to engage in projects and placements, combining your degree with practical experience to apply your learning to real-world scenarios and kick-start your career. Through module selection, you can tailor your degree to your future aspirations and even study abroad at a partner university.
