What will I learn?

Overview

Our MSc in Information Technology is ideal if you have a degree in a subject other than IT or computing and would like to develop much sought after business-relevant IT knowledge and skills.

The MSc IT will help you to become a modern IT professional who can analyse, design, deploy, utilise, and manage business-relevant IT-based systems and services. You will enhance, considerably, your understanding of modern IT-based business systems and learn how to address related development, acquisition, and deployment issues in modern organisations.

The MSc IT examines issues, trends, current practices, and technological alternatives in the field of business Information Technology and provides you with up-to-date technological and business skills, and specialist knowledge to help you design and/or implement appropriate, IT-driven solutions in ways that address the needs of modern business organisations.

The MSc IT provides a common foundation in IT for all students. This is then followed by a selection of modules which fall into two themes and depends upon your career goals and ambitions: a technical theme (e.g., Web Development, Database Development, Web Development or Networking); or a Business IT theme (eBusiness, Management or Analytics).

Career prospects

Upon completion, you can seek a job as an IT Consultant, IT Systems Developer, e-Business Specialist, Information Officer, Information Systems Manager, Database Developer, Business Analyst or Data Analyst.

Our graduates enjoy careers at organisations such as NHS, Public Organisations, Local Authorities, and companies such as Amazon, Atos, Adobe Systems, IBM, Aggreko, CAP-Gemini, DXC Technology (formerly HP), Dell, Morgan Stanley, RBS, Clydesdale Bank, and various SMEs. You will also gain PGCert and PGDip awards in this course. This course can be studied through online also.

Entry requirements

For international students

An Honours degree from any area other than IT or computing, or equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications. General English language requirements at UWS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training) overall score 6.0 with no sub-test less than 5.5, TOEFL IBT: 78; no sub-test less than: Reading 17; Listening 17; Speaking 17; and Writing 17.
