What will I learn?

Through the MA by Research (MAR), you'll conduct an original piece of independent research that will provide you with an in-depth understanding of your chosen discipline. Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies is a vibrant and research-active multidisciplinary unit within the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies. We host the distinguished Iqbal Centre, which organises public lectures and runs initiatives to support researchers across the University working on Islam. Our supervision is delivered by academics who are at the cutting-edge of research in their field and engaged in a wide range of research projects across the disciplines of Middle Eastern Studies and History, Islamic Studies, Arabic Linguistics and Translation Studies.

Entry requirements

For international students

You must have achieved a bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons), or equivalent, or a good performance in a Masters level course in a relevant subject. Applicants to research degree programmes should normally have at least a first class or an upper second class bachelors honours degree in an appropriate discipline.
