MA Textile Design Norwich University of the Arts

Course info

Creativity, craft and technological innovation combine on the MA Textile Design course at NUA.

We will encourage you to work at the forefront of the discipline, combining cutting edge and traditional techniques. Opportunities will be provided to embrace the latest digital and technological advancements while you develop a clear understanding of the market and the creative and commercial potential for your work.

We encourage students to engage creatively with materials, processes and concepts, and to respond to the textile designer’s role in society with regard to issues such as the climate emergency, diversity and socio-economic contexts. This could include researching wider networks and also blending ideas related to culture, material futures and bio-design.

Course tutors, visiting experts and workshop technicians are also practitioners with extensive and diverse experience in areas such as digital textile production, CAD for repeat design, laser cutting, illustration, dye and weave. Their breadth and depth of experience will support you as you experiment and develop your practice through exhibitions and national competitions.

Tutorials and practice-based projects encourage debate and reflection on the environmental, ethical and social impact of textile design. Guest speakers from industry will support your professional development and understanding of the range of pathways for practising designers in a rapidly evolving sector.
